Little Violet Photography Rebranding Ipswich Photographer

I will start off with a brief history of my business, for those of you who have stumbled upon me having never known me under my previous business name ‘Carly Seaman Photography’

When I had my second child I was obsessed with photographing her as I knew how fast she would grow. Her older brother had grown at an alarming rate and I was worried I would forget all the small things that change as kids grow. I just used my mobile phone for photos of my son so didn’t have any high quality photos until he was a bit older. I made sure I didn’t make that mistake again and my little girl became my model!

Various friends asked me to photograph their children after seeing my photos, and I really enjoyed not only the photography, but also interacting with other babies and finding ways to make them laugh. It was so rewarding to see mum’s face when she received her prints, and to know I had given her that memory to keep forever. What a special feeling.

As a mum to two young children, I encountered the common problem of not being able to go back to my day job after maternity leave due to the expenses of child care. So I decided to bite the bullet and set up my own business doing what I had grown to love – baby photography.

I was originally called Capture My Memory, which my husband mocked (thanks for that!), so for want of a better choice, I settled on using my name for my business when I launched it in July 2016.

Carly Seaman Photography started off photographing babies in parent’s houses, but I soon found this restrictive and yearned for a studio environment where I could plan setups and ideas (I love planning!). I set up my studio originally in my dining room, then into the living room. It was a ‘put up’ studio, so I had to set up and take down on the same day so my kids had their play area back. And so they didn’t rummage through my props!

My husband was really getting fed up of my increasing prop collection taking over the house, and I was sick of all the moving stuff about, so we decided to take the plunge and build a proper studio in our garden. That way I could have everything at hand and not worry about taking over our home with all my props and equipment! Best of all I could set up for shoots the day before, and have full control over the lighting and environment.

My studio was built by my husband and father in law, and it took a lot of time and money, but I absolutely love it – it is everything I dreamed of and more. It is my sanctuary, my oasis. Parents are so pleased with it, I always get lovely comments.

My lovely little studio

I had been umming and ahhing for ages over changing my business name, and finally my new name dawned on me while on an evening dog walk (on my own for a change, so I could think!). Little Violet is perfect for me as it reminds me of my daughter, and the reason for me starting my business, and also my nan who was the strongest person I knew. Little is because my clients are little. Or small. Or tiny. But I thought Little worked better with Violet than Small or Tiny!

Anyway, if you are still reading, thank you and I hope you found my background interesting!
