I thought I would share with you one of my typical Ipswich Cake Smash photo shoots!
PLANNING YOUR CAKE SMASH
In the first instance, we have a chat either in person, over email or the phone and put our heads together and plan your session. You may be looking for a specific theme (princess, stars, jungle, unicorn etc) or just enjoy putting certain colours together. I will guide you through this step, making suggestions along the way. Having a look at my previous smashes as well as these ideas on my Pintrest Board can be a good way to find something you like.
Once we decide on a theme for your cake smash photo shoot I will order everything in and a date will be set. You can now start to get excited!
ON THE DAY
Upon arrival I like to take some photos of little one in a smart outfit, usually with my ONE letters. This commemorates the occasion, and is a nice way to include any heirloom or personal items you may want to.
Starting off with a few portrait shots gives baby chance to settle in front of the camera. They can play with some of my lovely wooden toys, or sing a song, whatever is needed to get them settled.
Babies may be a little overwhelmed to start with. However balloons are usually a big hit, and they love playing with the pom poms. We try not to destroy the set so by giving them a distraction in the form of my little wooden toys, usually works!
MMM… CAKE
I will then get the cake, an essential part of your cake smash photo shoot! The professionally baked cake matches your chosen theme, and any dietary requirements are catered for. The cost of the cake and collection of it from my baker is included in your session. One less thing for you to think about!
Sometimes little ones are unsure what to do with the cake! It is most probably the first time they will have had a whole cake placed in front of them, and we usually discourage them from getting messy. They must think we have gone mad! But a little encouragement, along with a wooden spoon, and they soon get the hang of it. Plus the cake is so yummy once they have started they will want to share it with the floor, wall, you and everything!!
We will generally be given some cues to indicate when baby has had enough cake. It is important to stop before they get fed up, or they will be reluctant to participate in the rest of the cake smash photo shoot.
This is a good time to give them a drink and a cuddle while I prepare for the next stage.
THE BUBBLE BATH
A swift clean up and the set is replaced with a gorgeous mini roll top bath, bubbles and rubber ducks. I have an extra large ducky who is very popular!
All children like bubbles and most love the bath. I always get a fantastic range of expressions here. They love splashing and playing with the ducks. Some little ones enjoy throwing them out of the bath, or just getting in and out by themselves!
