There are many reasons to book a Cake Smash photo shoot for your little one. Here are just a couple…
Cake smash sessions are designed to feel like a sensory playtime for your little one. They are messy, adorable, and full of laughter. Most importantly, the resulting images capture your baby’s emerging personality in a genuine way.
What’s not to love out of these things – cake, bubbles and rubber ducks? All joined in with singing (badly, sorry!), giggles and even a play with my wooden toys.
The photos make an ideal gift to send to family to thank them for their birthday presents, and look fantastic on your wall all year round!
Although these sessions are ideal for a first birthday photoshoot, they can also be adapted for children of other ages. The only limitation is the “splash” bath segment, which depends on bath size.
What to Expect in a Cake Smash Session
Our Cake Smashes are a three part process...
1. Mini Portrait
The photo shoot starts off with a mini portrait, where we get some photos of your baby in a smart outfit, playing with some toys and take a family photo with the backdrop if you’d like.
2. The Smash
We bring the cake out and marvel at the range of expressions it produces!
How they react to the cake is anyone’s guess. I’ll be there capturing all the joy in their face!
3. The Splash
Finally, we bring out my gorgeous little roll top bath for some cute tub pictures. Your baby will love playing with the bubbles and rubber ducks. This also means your little one goes home nice and clean! Win, win!
The Setup
I am here to help you every step of the way
Your Cake Smash setup is typically kept timeless, featuring a plain background with a balloon garland in the colours of your choice, so that all the attention is on baby. In addition, you can customize the look by adding floral details, stars, hearts, or other decorations to make the session unique. During the booking process, we’ll discuss your ideas together so that I can create a setup that perfectly matches your vision. If you want something more elaborate that is also doable!
To complete the experience, a professionally baked frosted cake is provided to coordinate with the chosen theme. Allergy-friendly options are also available, but any dietary requirements must be declared at the time of booking.
How to Get Booked In
Booking your cake smash photoshoot in Ipswich is simple and stress-free. To get started, just send me a message to check availability and discuss your ideas. We can chat about your preferred theme, colors, and any props you’d like included, so your session is completely tailored to your little one.
A £95 booking fee is required to reserve your session. This fee covers the cost of the cake, props, and setup, and is deducted from your final order, keeping the booking process straightforward and transparent.
Most importantly, booking early ensures we can schedule your session at the perfect time—usually close to your child’s first birthday (or whichever milestone you’d like to celebrate). This way, we can capture all the fun, messy, and adorable moments in style.
Once your session is booked, I’ll guide you through everything you need to know, from outfit choices to tips for helping your little one enjoy the experience. Your cake smash photoshoot will be fun, relaxed, and full of memories to treasure forever.

I design the setup, blow up the balloons, liase with the baker and collect your cake, and best of all…. I clean up all the mess once you’ve gone!
Frequently Asked Questions
When should I book for?
Cake smashes are best for a first birthday. Most parents book for around 2-3 weeks prior to baby’s birthday to ensure they get the photos for the day. However it makes no difference to baby if they have their smash after their birthday, or even ON their birthday.
Depending on the type of setup you are looking for, the more notice the better for me to make sure I can source all materials needed.
You can of course book for 2nd/3rd birthdays, but kiddos don’t tend to want to sit with the cake at these ages – rather they prefer to explore the studio! So just bare in mind there will be more positioning needed from you! But it is doable, especially if you know they love cake!
What do I need to bring?
Nothing!
All packages include everything you need for the photo shoot. It is designed to be stress and mess free for you.
All you need to bring is a drink and a towel to dry little one off after, but I do have water/juice and towels here, so if you forget it’s no bother!
If you want to bring a smart outfit for the mini portrait photos at the beginning that’s fine.
Do I get to choose my photos?
Yes, all packages include an online Viewing Appointment where you can choose however many photos you want.
Prepare to buy them all as most parents can’t bare to leave any behind!
What kind of setup can I have?
Anything you like really! Most parents opt for a simple balloon garland, but if you want a theme e.g. jungle, baby shark, flowers etc, then we can certainly do this.
State your preferences on your booking form/questionnaire and I will gather my creativity to bring your vision to life!
How much is it to book?
I ask for a booking fee of £95 to reserve your space in my diary. This is deducted from your final package price.
The booking fee is higher as it covers the cost of the cake plus any decorations I need to order. I do not make any profit on the cake or decorations.
What about the cake?
I source my cakes from a local baker, who is hygiene rated by the council and sells their cakes professionally. As such, they can cater to allergies when stated on the booking in form. I do not make any profit on the cakes, so the booking fee is higher to cover the upfront cost.
The cake itself will be a Victoria sponge cake with jam filling, covered in frosting to match the colours you choose.
Other requests can be catered to but may incur additional charges, please discuss this with me.
